Everything Lambda Mail does
Lambda Mail is a Mac app for Gmail that stays simple until you want more. The home page shows the big things. This is the full list, as of the beta in November 2026.
Attachments
- Always at the bottom. Files never land between the lines of an email. They wait in a bar under the message and work like Finder: click to select, Space for Quick Look, double-click to open, drag them out, or Save All.
- In a new message too. Drop or paste a file anywhere in the window and it goes to a tray at the bottom. Click one for Quick Look.
- The Attachments library. Every file you've sent or received, newest first, with a big preview beside it. Show only Images, PDFs, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations or Archives, and search with Gmail's own search words. Open, save or drag out any file, or jump to the email it came in.
Make it yours
- Seven themes: System, Graphite, Paper, Midnight, Forest, Rosé and Terminal.
- Every color. Duplicate a theme and change any of its 11 colors, separately for light and dark: sidebar, message list, reading pane, message cards, compose window, text, secondary text, accent, unread dot, unread count and attachment cards.
- 15 fonts that come with every Mac, in sans serif, serif and monospaced.
- Spacing and size: Compact, Regular or Roomy rows, and text from 85% to 140%. Text size covers the whole app, emails included.
- Liquid Glass sidebar, with a Tint slider for how much of the theme's color shows.
- Dark mode your way. Light, Dark or the system's choice, and HTML emails on white paper or shown dark.
- Always readable. If a color you pick would make text hard to read, Lambda Mail picks a readable text color for that part of the window.
- Share themes by exporting and importing them as files.
- A sidebar you shape: drag mailboxes into any order, drag one out of the window to hide it, and bring it back in Settings › Sidebar. Turn labels or unread counts off.
- A small surprise in the Terminal theme's empty reading pane.
Reading
- Three columns, the Mac way: mailboxes, the message list and the conversation. Double-click a conversation to open it in its own window.
- Fast. Your mail from last time is on screen about a second after you open the app, and your newest conversations download in the background, so they open at once.
- A filter for unread, starred or with-attachment mail.
- Gmail's search, with the words you know, like
from:anna has:attachment. - Click any name to copy the address, write to that person or see all your mail with them.
- Offline: mail you've opened before still opens, and the sidebar says when you're offline.
Writing
- Undo Send. After you click Send, the message waits 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds, or not at all (Settings › General), and Send turns into Undo with the seconds left.
- Formatting in a bar at the bottom: Title, Heading and Body, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, color, font and size.
- Clean pasting. Text pasted from a web page or a document comes in readable, in your own font and colors.
- Quotes out of the way. A reply folds the earlier message behind a ••• button, the way Gmail does.
- A signature per account, with formatting, swapped for you when you change the From account.
- Address suggestions from the people you write to and hear from, in any alphabet.
- Drafts in Gmail. Closing a message you've typed in asks whether to save it to Drafts, and drafts reopen with their formatting.
Organizing
- Archive like Gmail, with a real Archive mailbox, so you can always see where mail went.
- Labels in colors you pick, added or removed with the tag button.
- Several at once: select a few conversations to archive, delete, star, label or mark them read together.
- Several Gmail accounts, each with its own mailboxes and signature. Fold an account away and its unread count stays next to its name.
- All Inboxes: one list for every account's Inbox (Settings › Sidebar).
- Unsubscribe in one click. Newsletters get an Unsubscribe button at the top, and the Subscriptions page lists every newsletter in your newest 1,000 messages, each with its own button. What Unsubscribe sends.
- The cleanup tools: Not Spam, Move to Inbox, Delete All Messages, Empty Trash and Empty Spam.
Staying on top
- New mail right away, pushed by Gmail, with a Mac notification.
- An unread count on the Dock icon and next to each Inbox.
- λ in the menu bar (Settings › General): click it for your newest unread mail, and click a message to open it in Lambda Mail.
Works like a Mac app
- Native: built with SwiftUI and AppKit, with the Mac's menus, Quick Look, drag and drop, and Liquid Glass on macOS 26 and later.
- Your default email app. One button in Settings › General, and email links in your browser and other apps open a new message in Lambda Mail.
- Sign in with Google or with an app password. Either way, your sign-in stays in your Mac's Keychain.

Private by design
- No servers of ours. Your mail goes from Google to your Mac and nowhere else. There's no Lambda account to create.
- No analytics, in the app or on this website.
- Trackers blocked: pixels from 21 known tracking services, and tiny or hidden images, with a shield that says what was stopped. Turn on Block all remote content (Settings › Privacy) and pictures wait until you load them.
- Careful with mail: emails can't run scripts, links open in your browser, Spam never loads pictures, and files you save are marked as downloaded, so macOS checks them before they open.
The Privacy page has the details.
